Lenten Reading Series

Domestic-Church.Com - Fridge Art - Lenten Readings

This is a new activity, developed by Domestic-Church for families in the Lenten season. It is patterned or modelled after the Advent Jesse tree which we have found to be a very effective way to tell the story of Advent, and hold the family's interest through the season of Advent. This Lenten reading series could be added to the family evening prayers of used at some other time of day.

The reading series follows, in roughly chronological order, the history of God's people, from Genesis through to the New Testament. Since Christ's coming, ministry, death and resurrection were all foretold in prophecy, the readings are paired, first the Old Testament prophecy, then the New Testament fulfillment.

Since this is its first year, a suggested way of presenting the reading series hasn't been invented. We plan to try a 'collage' forming a cross with one piece for each day's reading in our family. A grid of 2 X 16 for the upright and 2 X 6 for the cross bar works out to 40 squares. We would like to hear about your ideas, and how the Lenten series worked in your family. Please mail us.

We will post your messages as as they come in and incorporate all your ideas into next year's Lenten activity suggestions. Thank you in advance.
